ROBINSON The death occurred on Sunday 2nd March 2008 of Mr Elmer Robinson (Elmer to all of those who knew him). Elmer was one of the original founder members of the NCSSC. He succeeded Tom Purvis as Club Chairman, giving this post up in 2000. Elmer began showing Shelties sometime in the early 1950's when he founded his influential SEAVAL kennel. Visitors to his kennel on an allotment in Seaton Delaval in Northumberland will remember the care with which he looked after his dogs. Elmer was a very private man and not a great deal is known about his private life outside of the dog world. He was a joiner by trade and certainly spent some time working at a local greyhound track . Prior to this it is believed he worked at a local colliery. Subsequent to his time at the greyhound track he moved into training and instruction at a local training centre. In later years he entered into partnership with Gill Hardman and they shared the SEAVAL prefix. It is believed that Gill is making arrangements to take on this prefix. After over 50 years of running a breeding and showing kennel of Shetland Sheepdogs Elmer gave up all of his dogs in the last year or two. When asked about life without dogs he was remarkably sanguine about it. In fact he claimed that he never missed them at all. Even more remarkable, when asked what breed he would keep as a pet he rejected shelties and said he would have a pug if anything. Elmer was always unpredictable and surprising. Elmer's funeral was held on Monday 10th March and there was a good attendance, friends and acquaintances travelling long distances for the occasion. In a typical dog world fashion however the funeral was postponed so that it did not interfere with Crufts.
APPEAL FOR HELP The NCSSC is trying to complete a complete pictorial record of the top award winners at the Championship shows. This will be available to see at the shows in the form of a Powerpoint presentation and also as a hard copy Members have co-operated in this project very well by providing photographs of their dogs for inclusion However there are still a number of dogs for whom photographs seem to be very difficult to obtain. These dogs are JUDGE BREEDER OWNED BY
The owners of the dogs have been contacted several times but to no avail. It may be that the addresses we have are now are incorrect. If any member reading this item has a photograph of any of these dogs The NCSSC would be very grateful if you could send it to Tom Bates.
